Library essentials

 

Macquarie City Campus Library facilities include a course specific lending collection, student computers, quiet study areas, and access to librarians and other library staff for research assistance and direction. Macquarie City Campus students can borrow books from Macquarie City Campus and the Macquarie University Library in North Ryde and have full access to the online resources of the Macquarie University Library.


LOANS

To borrow from the Macquarie City library, students must have a current Macquarie City campus card. Students can borrow four books for a period of two weeks each.
Current textbooks are available for loan and for use in the Library as Special Reserve items.


LOGGING ON TO LIBRARY COMPUTERS

All students using the Library computers are required to log on using their Macquarie City student number and password. The password is the same as that used in the computer labs. When logging on make sure the ‘log on to’ box is set to MQC-STUDENT.

BOOK RETURNS TO MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY (NORTH RYDE)

If you have borrowed books from the Macquarie University Library in Ryde, these can be returned directly to the Macquarie City Library.


LIBRARY CATALOGUE

The Macquarie City library catalogue is at: http://aleph.unilinc.edu.au/mqc
To access your own record click 'My Library Record' and enter the letters MQ followed by your Macquarie City student number and the barcode number on the Macquarie City  student card.


RENEWALS

Items can be renewed four times (except those items on hold for other students). Students can renew items online by logging into the My Library Record.


HOLD REQUESTS

Hold requests can be placed by clicking on the item name in the Library catalogue and then 'Request'. Please note that hold requests can only be placed on items out on loan and when no other copy is available in the Library. When the item is returned it is put aside and the student is notified by email  that it is ready for pick-up.


OVERDUE NOTICES

Courtesy notices are emailed to students 2 days before an item is due, followed by notices at 4 and 14 days overdue. When an item is 21 days overdue it is considered lost and a bill for replacement is sent.

STUDY AND RESEARCH ASSISTANCE

There are a wide range of study guides and research tools available online through Macquarie University.


Information Skills Online

While studying at Macquarie you will be required to find, evaluate and use information available through the Library to complete your essays and research assignments. Information Skills Online is an online training package designed to assist you in finding the information that you need to succeed in your course:

Students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the range of databases available to them through the Macquarie University Library website:

Referencing


You need to find out which referencing style is preferred for each of your subjects. Ask your lecturer for the name of the system. The most common referencing systems used at university are:

MACQUARIE CITY LIBRARY FINES


Overdue fees are charged at $1 a day for each day a book is overdue.
At 21 days overdue, a bill for replacement is issued. Replacement of items is charged at a rate of $80 + $20  processing fee (+ GST). Fines are not waived once a bill for replacement is paid.


A block is put on borrowing rights (including renewals) when fines reach $30.
To reinstate borrowing rights a minimum of $20 must be paid and fines must be reduced below $30.


A claim and appeal against the imposition of Library fines can be made (e.g. if you were unable to return books on time due to illness or other extenuating circumstances) by filling in a Request for Fines Exemption form and returning it to Library staff.


To avoid fines remember to renew your books online and return books on time!
